Twelve schools within Community Consolidated School District 21 received “commendable” designations in the state report card released by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) on Oct. 30. All nine elementary schools and the district’s three middle schools were placed into the second tier of summative designations. The district’s 13th school, Hawthorne, did not receive a designation based on its status as an early childhood center.
“Receiving Commendable designations on the Illinois State Report Card for 12 of our schools reflects the hard work, dedication, and unwavering commitment of our students, staff, and families,” said Dr. Michael Connolly, superintendent of schools. “This achievement highlights our community’s collective pursuit of excellence and reinforces our mission to provide a supportive, high-quality education for every student.”
Released annually by the Illinois State Board of Education, the report card assesses key metrics such as academic growth, proficiency in core subjects, graduation rates, attendance, school climate, and student demographics. Schools receive designations based on their performance, with categories including Exemplary, Commendable, Targeted, and Comprehensive, each reflecting various levels of achievement and improvement.
“This success underscores our commitment to academic excellence, equity, and the continuous support of our students’ growth,” said Dr. Beatrice Reyes Childress, chief academic officer. “We are excited to build on this momentum and further enrich the educational experience for every learner in District 21.”
